2nd look at Taylor mali poem
On my second look at Taylor Mali's poem I had a different view. My paradigm of the current world change. The first time I heard the poem was in my English class it was still too early and I felt sleepy. Now on my second look I had a different opinion. I totally agree with him I believe that the upcoming writers are becoming less interested in reading and in and writing. After watching the entire clip again I realized that he was pointing out a lot of humorous things about how people talk and their lack of conviction at least that is what he called it. One example in which he portrays this is when he said "you know, you know, you know what I mean?" Its funny because I find myself doing the same thing and eventually ,I find out that I don't know what I'm talking about...........

Hey Johnny! After reading your post I think that what you are saying is very interesting. When I first read it I was very sleepy as well and was not really in the mood. When you say that upcoming writers are becoming less and less interested in reading and writing, I wonder why that is? Is it just getting too boring and the same thing over again and again? I am curious to know why that is. I also find myself saying something along the lines of, "yeah yeah you know you know what I mean hahah."

Hi JohSey!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I absolutely love the name of your blog. It's original, and foreign languages are so much fun! About the video, I agree. He talks about how people speak in a constant "interrogative tone" and using poor English because they have nothing to say, nothing of worth to be heard. Like you mentioned, I also catch myself doing this. Perhaps we need to think more before we speak, or simply cut back on how much we talk altogether, only chiming in when there's something worthwhile to say.
I am really interested in how you are going back to this moment in your thinking and revising your ideas about the poem!
ReplyDeleteJohnny, I really liked this post. I can relate to it because I felt the same way when we were first shown the video in english class. I was half asleep and I just felt disconnected from it, and I didn't get much out of it. But after looking at it a second time I also realized just how true everything was that he was saying. And haha, I liked the end of your post when you said after you say something like "You know, you know, you know what I mean?" you aren't even sure if you know exactly what you're talking about haha. Great post, made me laugh!
ReplyDeleteI like your post and your funny picture. haha, I feel like Mali was using a stereotype in his video though, which is not necessarily bad, but I think he uses it to influence wirters that are writing outside of the social norm.
ReplyDeleteI looked up the video that you watched and thought it was very interesting. I like how you used a funny cartoonish picture for this blog. It made me interested in what you had to say which by the way was a very interesting perspective on the video.
ReplyDeleteJohnny what came out to me and forced me to read this was the picture....it captured everything you said. You said the phrase "I find myself doing the same thing and eventually ,I find out that I don't know what I'm talking about" and i have the same difficulties when i am talking to someone and i dont really know what im talking about
ReplyDeleteI like the picture haha. I feel as though people are becoming less interested in reading and writing. I personally think that our society is more interested in social networking sites and hanging out with friends instead of sitting down and reading a book or perhaps even writing a book.
